About

We, the UWC Counselors Network, across 18 schools and four continents, are excited to welcome you to our Virtual Fairs and Events for the 2022-2023 academic year!

We will be hosting two days of Davis Partner Institution fairs on September 27th and September 29th, 2022. To keep the student-to-university ratio optimal, we will split the Davis Partner institution list in half, Institutions 1-50 will be on September 27 & institutions 51-99 will be on September 29.

Please ensure you check the list and register for your designated day. There will be morning and afternoon sessions for each day so that you can meet all students throughout the entire 18 UWC campuses. We hope that these virtual fairs will make it easier for you to meet all UWC students at once and allow UWC students to meet you all in one place. The registration fee covers both fairs on your day.

Both the fairs will also be joined by the "Friends of UWC" institutions outside of the Davis program that have generously supported our students in the past through UWC-specific financial support to our students.

Since its founding as part of a social movement in 1855, Bates College has been dedicated to the emancipating potential of the liberal arts and sciences. The first co-educational college in New England, Bates educates the whole person through creative and rigorous scholarship in a collaborative residential community of 2,000 undergraduate students from more than 80 countries and most U.S. states. The 54-hectare main campus in Lewiston (Maine’s second-largest metropolitan area) is the perfect site for engaged learning in a vibrant, dynamic and accessible community. With ardor and devotion — Amore ac Studio — we engage the transformative power of our differences, cultivating intellectual discovery and informed civic action. Preparing leaders sustained by a love of learning and a commitment to responsible stewardship of the wider world, Bates is a college for coming times. Submission of standardized testing is optional. Need-based financial aid is available for U.S. and non-U.S. citizens.

  • Carbon neutral since 2019. One of a dozen or so U.S. colleges to reach this important benchmark. Goal to be climate positive by 2030. One of the oldest environmental studies programs in the United States. Setting in Maine for both research and recreation.
  • 10% of students are non-U.S. citizens, and another 10% of students have international backgrounds. In total, more than 80 countries are represented by citizenship. More than 40 UWC graduates are enrolled for the 2022-23 academic year at Bates. In the last two years, at least one of the co-student body presidents was a UWC graduate.
  • Bates curriculum aligns well with the International Baccalaureate: encouraging an interdisciplinary approach and thinking; focusing on writing and research with a senior thesis; and being civically engaged. And, our values align too: a residential community with mixed class-year housing and communal dining hall; a service-orientated community; a celebration of difference; a commitment to the environment; and a need to make an impact in the world.
  • Bates meets 100% of demonstrated financial need for every admitted student, regardless of citizenship status. Non-U.S. citizens are packaged with financial aid awards that do not include loans. Enrolling UWC students with demonstrated financial need are eligible for $25,000 per year from The Davis Foundation as part of their financial aid award.
  • Bates has been SAT and ACT optional since 1984. UWC students do not need to submit results of an English-proficiency test for admission.

Through one-on-one academic planning and graduate-style advising, Bennington students design an education that goes beyond the bounds of traditional majors. They do so in a global community of approximately 770 students and 135 faculty from over 50 countries on our beautiful campus in southern Vermont—just three hours north of New York City. Through participation in required annual internships that complement their studies, our students are well prepared for life after Bennington--93% of our graduates are employed or in graduate school six months after graduation, and 76% of our students land a first job closely aligned with their academic study.

Location: Bennington, USA

University's Virtual Tour: https://bennington.college-tour.com/

University and Program Highlights:

  • Every Bennington student designs their own individualized education (we call this the Plan) in close collaboration with a faculty advisor and with feedback from a Plan committee, who guide each student’s progress to ensure that their Plan is challenging, academically sound, and significant.
  • Every Bennington student, every year spends six weeks at work in the world pursuing jobs, internships, and entrepreneurial endeavors related to their studies, their professional ambitions, and their own curiosities. In each of these four experiences, known as Field Work Term, students bring their studies to the world of work, implementing knowledge, confronting challenges firsthand and refining their questions to further shape their studies when back on campus.
  • Housing is personal at Bennington—students live not in dorms but in houses of generally 30–45 people each, with architectural styles ranging from modern design to clapboard houses reflecting 1930s New England. Bennington student houses consistently top the rankings in Princeton Review’s “Dorms Like Palaces” list. All houses are coeducational, most have fireplaces and, depending on where you live, you might find yourself enjoying a patio or porch overlooking great views of the mountains, a piano, or a second living room.
  • The Princeton Review lauded Bennington for the strong academic experience the College provides its students, highlighting it among “Great Classroom Experiences,” “Great Professors,” and “Students Study the Most.” In addition to notable academics, Bennington is often recognized among the top "LGBTQ-Friendly" campuses in the nation. Highlighting the College's ongoing commitment to the environment and sustainability, Bennington was also featured on Princeton's "Green Colleges" list of environmentally sustainable schools.

At College of the Atlantic (COA), you hold in your own hands the freedom, and responsibility, of building your educational path. Every COA student designs their own course of study in human ecology, an exploration of the relationships between humans and their natural, cultural, and built environments. There’s no set path; you give shape to your curriculum based on your interests, exploring across multiple areas of study or digging deeper into a chosen focus. Nestled between Acadia National Park and the Atlantic Ocean, and with just 350 students and 35 faculty, we’ve created a close-knit, supportive community—an ideal environment for learning in the field and fostering creative collaboration and intellectual risk-taking. We believe that tomorrow’s problem-solvers will need to work across multiple disciplines, collaborate, innovate, and think unconventionally. A COA education isn’t just about learning—it’s also about transforming thought into action to make a difference in the world.

Conn offers a distinctively integrative liberal arts education. Here “academic rigor” isn’t just about the number of pages our students read or write: it’s about synthesizing multiple viewpoints into breakthrough ideas. Conn students learn to look beyond typical narratives and assumptions and build strong connections among the many aspects of their college experience: the languages they are learning; the disciplines they are studying; the communities they are inhabiting; their work in class and in the world; and ultimately, their lives after college. They learn how to make an impact—and how to inspire others to do so, too.

  • Beyond our warm and friendly community, what sets us apart is how the College integrates the cultural and intellectual resources of Los Angeles with the academic program. You will use Los Angeles as your laboratory. No residential liberal arts college campus is as perfectly situated within the heart of the world’s most dynamic global city.
  • Discussion-based learning is at the center of the Occidental experience. The average class size is 18 and there are no classes that have over 50 students.
  • Historically, nearly 70% of students will pursue a study abroad experience -- including semesters abroad, summer research experiences, individual courses that take students abroad for 1-3 weeks during winter and summer breaks, and an incredibly distinct semester at the United Nations.
  • Our faculty and our curriculum embody a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in which students develop their capacity to learn from and about difference, to understand inequality, and to apply these values in the wider world.
  • Choose from over 40 majors and minors, or design your own course of study unique to you.

A liberal arts college in the midst of a world-renowned research university, the University of Chicago offers a dynamic and well-rounded education, where students encounter great thinkers, sharpen critical thinking skills, and engage in the life of the mind. UChicago is a global leader in scientific advancement and plays a pivotal role as a central hub for innovation in quantum science and engineering. We're intent on changing the world by asking tough questions, celebrating new ideas, and forming a community of scholars - one as supportive as it is transformative. UChicago and its namesake city are inextricably linked. With over 9 million people in the Chicagoland area, Chicago is a center of global cultures, international commerce, the arts, and pizza. And with the city center just a 20-minute ride away from our cozy Hyde Park neighborhood, the city becomes an integral part of your UChicago experience.

University's Virtual Tour: https://collegeadmissions.uchicago.edu/virtual-events

University and Program Highlights:

  • A University of Chicago education is about more than gaining a set of skills, achieving a rite of passage, or even honing the ability to think critically. From the beginning, we’ve believed in the benefits of a liberal arts education, including a robust intellectual foundation in a diversity of disciplines.
  • At the University of Chicago, our Core curriculum is each student’s introduction to the tools of inquiry used in every discipline—humanities, social sciences, and natural and mathematical sciences. The Core is distinctive for its small, Socratic-style classes capped at a maximum of 19 students where learning takes place through discussion based primary texts. The Core curriculum accounts for the first third of a student's time in the College, giving them a great deal of flexibility in how they complete it. Not everyone takes the same classes, but everyone studies similar disciplines and tackles similar intellectual challenges, which provides each student in the College a common vocabulary of ideas and common skills of analysis and argumentation. It provides a shared, unifying experience for all students in the College, as well as background for any major and habits of mind that last a lifetime.
  • At a liberal arts institution such as the University of Chicago, your major does not necessarily determine your career path. While for some students, choosing a major serves as a path to a specific career or profession, for others it represents a way to build skills that could apply to many different careers or to dig into a passionate academic interest. You can begin a major at any time, including your first quarter. Unless otherwise specified by the department, the deadline for declaring a major is Spring Quarter of your third year. Most students will change majors at least once during their time on campus.
  • All this exciting academic activity at UChicago takes place in a calendar of academic quarters, which last ten weeks each and conclude with a reading period followed by a week for finals. Most students take classes during Autumn, Winter, and Spring Quarters, though courses are also available during Summer Session.
  • Community starts at UChicago by sharing a common space and a common spirit. Our residential Houses integrate faculty, staff, upperclass Resident Assistants, and a cadre of 100 or so students who share a cluster of individual rooms and common areas within a residence hall. Your House becomes a home the minute you set foot on campus. Resident Heads open their doors to you, sharing their family lives (and pets!), hosting study breaks, Bad Movie Nights, 10-minute finals-week dance parties, and hiking excursions to the Indiana Dunes.
  • Rigorous inquiry demands diverse perspectives. Academic programs and resources such as the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs and the Center for Identity + Inclusion serve a diverse community of students, faculty, and staff.
